[01] What this site is

books.amrudincatic.com is where Amrudin Catic publishes his books, and where some of them can be read. It is a static site. There are no accounts, no logins, no comments, no forms, and nothing to buy.

[02] What it collects

Nothing you type, because there is nothing to type into. No contact form, no newsletter, no search box.

[03] Hosting

The site is hosted by Vercel, which processes standard server request data such as IP address, user agent, and requested URL in order to serve the page and defend against abuse.

[04] Analytics

Vercel Analytics records aggregate page views. It is cookieless and does not build a profile of you or follow you across sites. It runs on every page here except the ones a novel is actually read on: a novel read as a route carries no script at all on its chapters, and a novel read as a network carries, on its fragments, only the script that wears the text, which reports nothing to anybody. What you read is the one thing on this site that is not counted.

This site sets no cookies of its own.

[06] Reading progress

A novel read here as a route remembers where you are: which chapters you have read, which places on its map have opened to you, which papers from its dossier you have looked at, and where you stopped. The papers are worth naming separately, because reading one is a choice you made rather than a page the book led you to. That is held in your own browser, under a single key named after the book, and it is never sent anywhere. No server is told what you have read, because no server is involved. Each book keeps its own record under its own key and knows nothing about the others, so reading two of them, or the same novel in two languages, leaves two separate records that never meet. Every book offers a control on its opening page which erases that book’s record and nothing else, and on a novel read as a route that also returns its city to fog; clearing this site’s data in your browser erases all of them at once. If your browser will not allow storage at all, for example in a private window, the book still works and simply forgets when you close the tab.

[07] A card for the wearing text

A network novel read here keeps a small card of its own: how many times you have opened each fragment, which one you were last on, and the day and count of your current session. That exists because this book wears with reading, so it has to know how many times a passage has been seen. It holds those and nothing else: a field the book stopped reading was removed from the record rather than left in it. It lives only in your browser, under its own key, and is never sent anywhere. The book’s own “new card” control erases it.

[08] The map

A book read on a map draws that map from files served by this site. There is no map provider, no tile server, and no request to anyone else, so your position on the map is not a request that anybody could log. The map never asks for your location.

[09] Third parties

None are loaded. Fonts and map tiles are served from this origin, there are no embedded players, no trackers, and no advertising.

[10] Search Console

Every page carries a short Google Search Console token proving this site is mine. It is an inert line in the page source: it loads nothing, sets nothing, and sends nothing when you read the page. Search Console then shows me which search terms led people here and how often a result was clicked. That is Google reporting on its own search users in aggregate, not on visitors to this site, and it never names anyone.

[11] What automated readers may take

The text of a book published here is not offered to crawlers. A route novel’s chapters, dossier documents and map transitions, and a network novel’s fragments, are excluded in robots.txt for every crawler named there, search engines and AI alike, and they are marked noindex as well. The pages that describe a book are open to all of them. None of this restricts a person: the book is free to read, in full, in a browser.
